My sister K. brought me a lovely skein of un-messed-about-with yarn from New Zealand. It’s “double-knit” weight, which looks like U.S. sport weight to me. No idea of the yardage, but it’s 200 gms, and the label says 5 hanks would do for a 44″ sweater in stocking stitch. Any guess-timates, fiber friends?
I’m going to think a while about what to do with it… In the meantime, I’m having a hard time resisting the temptation to stick my nose into it and inhale. Sheepy goodness.

Double knit here (Aus/NZ) normally means 8ply, to be knit on 4mm (size 8?) needles. Don’t know if that helps …

It does — interesting, though since it looks less bulky in the skein than Aran or worsted. Still, it’s hairy, like Shetland, so knitting it too firmly isn’t a good bet!

Yum! Eager to know what you would make. I might consider one of those endless ring scarves to add a snuggly layer in winter,

I’m going to have to do a little swatch and wash with Eucalan before I decide what to make, since it’s a wee bit skritchy right now. But I’m thinking of a lovely lacey scarf — now that I know how to make a Moebius scarf, it’s awfully easy to do.
