With the end of the semester, and its attendant loss of regular income, Rubi’s thoughts turn to economizing. Without compromising her standards, of course.

One place where I’m trying to pinch pennies these days is in the body care department. I know better than to change my facial routine, but body wash and lotion don’t have to be expensive to work, so I’ve hunted down a couple of bargains that I’m happy to share with you.

My skin is dry, sensitive, and a bit fragile. I want body wash and lotion that address those issues, and that don’t contain parabens or pthalates. No animal testing, either. This is a tall order for drugstore shopping, but I’ve discovered a good place to look. Down around your ankles, you’ll find the St. Ives line — seriously, in my local CVS, it’s always on the bottom shelf!

I’ve been using the Collagen-Elastin lotion and body wash for a while now, and I’m happy with the results. On really dry days, I do find myself putting on a little more lotion in the afternoon, especially on my arms. The flip side is that when it gets hot and sticky this summer, I should be able to continue using the lotion without feeling like a walking strip of fly-paper. If there were one thing I’d change, it would be to make this fragrance-free. I’d rather smell like what I want to smell like!

And the price is right, too — about $4.99 for body wash, and $5.99 for lotion.
